Domenico Pastore lives and works where many of us like to go on vacation: The southern Italian region of Puglia is known for its miles of coastline with gorgeous beaches, its impressive port cities, and numerous historical sights. However, it is not only the impressive buildings and the varied landscape of the region which are worth seeing, but also the work which Domenico Pastore and his colleagues have done at Dussmann Service Italy in recent years - and especially during the Corona pandemic.

With positions in school catering and cleaning services, Pastore, who started at Dussmann Service in 2014, worked his way up to the divisional manager position in the regions of Puglia, Abruzzo and Molise. Now he manages work processes and plans services in compliance with corporate objectives and applicable safety regulations, mainly in the hospital sector. 

So he has always been close to the pandemic action: "The importance of our services in the healthcare sector has increased, we are an active part in the virus containment in the fight against Corona," he says. He is particularly proud of the teamwork at Dussmann and the performance of his colleagues: "All departments work well together, supporting each other wherever possible. Everyone gives their best." 

Even after more than a year and a half, Pastore looks back on the beginnings of the pandemic and the great and above all unknown challenges that he and his team faced: "We were all scared. We had never seen Intensive Care Units so crowded before, and the Covid 19 units were set up in a very short time. It was just stunned." Keeping a cool head in this situation and implementing appropriate measures to protect everyone was one of the most important tasks. But the teams in Italy were able to ensure that all employees were equipped with the necessary masks, gloves and appropriate protective clothing. The cleaning professionals were sensitized through training and, above all, also encouraged every day that their work is valuable and essential. 

"The operators of the Santo Spirito Hospital in Pescara have also shown great courage, humanity and professionalism," Pastore says enthusiastically. "I hope that there will be no more challenges like this in the future - if there are, we will overcome them with the valuable support of the Dussmann Group!"
